Shim Tool Dell 3100 Chromebook CR50 failed to load factory mode and Write HWID Failed

I have an issued 3100 Motherboard shipped to me and the motherboard is installed and I run the included shim tool and get a CR50 failure to load the Factory mode.

Even if I reboot I can get into the Factory mode but the Write HWID Fails and I can't complete the factory mode test. I was wondering if there is anything else I am missing here I have done many mainboards in the past models and never came across these issues.

I have tried customer technical support multiple times with no luck on how to get past this. I am guessing someone needs to reach out to depot repair and find the correct solution for this so I can just load this mainboard properly. I want to think that they are not sending the correct version of the shim tool with the motherboard and it doesn't have the proper HDWID so it fails to write the thing.

Just an FYI I am also a tech direct remember and when you do a warranty checker tool for a Chromebook if it is under warranty it will give you an option to download a shim tool. What I noticed is that file they have it is outdated. Its a really old version of the shim tool. It is in a bin format extension and they give you the tool to make one but that one won't even boot a 3100. So I guess that is why they include one with the motherboard. Just curious why there is no other way to download and make an update to date Shimtool. I mean if this all comes down to the Shim tool being the wrong version why isn't there an option to just download and make a current one? Can you look into that as well?

Hi Mtavares316, have you tried the steps mentioned in the link already. https://dell.to/30nYlKM

Hi thanks for that info but your info is for a 5190 which the procedures are not exactly the same.

the correct procedures I follow have been based on this link for 3100

https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-us/sln317515/chromebook-3100-3100-2-in-1-and-3400-rma-shim-process?lang=en

I did follow the steps for the 5190 to see if anything would change but I still am getting the CR50 message where it doesn't go to shop floor automatically after doing I on the shim menu.

I really think this has something to be done with the cr 50 messages any boards that have successfully work to write the HWID never would fail at this point.

I have to at that point manually reboot the Chromebook to get it to go the factory mode and then it still has no success at the Write HWID.  Below is the log from the failure

To be clear on the 3100 there is a test point on the factory where it will ask you to space to shut down and reconnect the battery so that it can write the HWID. So it's hard to believe I'm doing something wrong this is not the first Motherboard I have done and been successful. I follow the same procedures I normally do.

This is a video of the shim tool process from the menu screen and it gets to the CR50 failure to load the Factory mode

When I reboot it goes to factory mode and this is what happens when I do the Factory mode and get the write Hwid failure

I'm having the same issue.  Is there any way around this?  I'm also a tech direct member.

No dell is stingy about giving proper access to the right shim tools I got sent three different boards and three different shim tool versions and none of them worked with either of the boards so no clue the Internet doesn’t have a solution. I tried interchanging the shims. The last one they gave me I didn’t get the error 50 any more so it must be newer but still
Hardware Is write failure I had to sent the chromebook in.

I'm having the same issue and it doesn't matter if they are new or used boards. You would think they would want to get this taken care of, to save them time and shipping.

This looks like a spam post or you posted the wrong link

I'm a member at tech direct too, and its frustrating that we can't get any help with some of these errors on these things.   Dell knows these errors happen and how to fix them.  Why is it such a secret?
