Inspiron 3181 - No power light, charger shows power

My mother has a Inspiron Chromebook 3181 that suddenly stopped working. My son was using it two nights ago, the following morning, nothing.

As a network tech, the first thing I did was unplug it, let it deplete the battery (if it had a charge), try to drain the system of power by holding the power button. Plug it in and see if there was any change.

Unfortunately not.

The first return on that popular search engine mentions some EC (Electronics Circuitry?), which I assume would be on the motherboard. But this is generally a battery issue.

Well my son DOES NOT CHARGE A THING, so I could see him using it until it completely drained the battery and possibly killed it (he did that to his switch, too).

Would replacing the battery fixed this or is the problem definitely on the mainboard?

Thanks for making it through my tome.

Hard reset your Chromebook For most Chromebooks, follow the steps below: Turn off your Chromebook. Press and hold Refresh + tap Power . When your Chromebook starts up, release Refresh . You should NEVER deplete a battery completely not even for troubleshooting. The hardware reset above disconnects the power and depletes the trickle that may remain. If that doesn't help does the led light up when it's plugged in?
