Chromebook 7310 crash on load

Hi All,

I have a 3 year-old Chromebook 7310 that seems to have an issue working under load. When playing a 1080p video from Youtube, it crashes unexpectedly after ~3 minutes (black screen, no keyboard backlight...etc). After the crash, it won't turn on for couple of hours even if keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds, open-close the lid...etc.

This is the Celeron version (Intel 3205U, 4GB RAM, 16GB SSD)

For light loads (e.g.: playing 480p from Youtube, normal browsing...etc), it works fine. It is generally fast and responsive.

I have done a full ChromeOS recovery (created an image with an other Chromebook) but no change with the new image.

It has the current latest stable image (74.x) for the machine.

I have tried Guest mode as well, no change.

I have run "memory_test" from Crosh shell but it doesn't show any issues. I am unsure if this does proper testing because the amount of memory that will be tested is always different.

I have switched the SSD with an SSD from an other Chromebook, no change.

I have removed the old thermal paste from the processor and replaced it with fresh paste, no change.

The cooling fan never seems to activate (although this is the same for the other two 7310 units and those seem to work perfectly even without it)

Battery seems to be OK (~7 hours runtime with light browsing and 480p youtube) and the crash also happens when on charger.

ChromeOS device type: LULU D25-A2B-A4Y-Q7L (according to the recovery app)

Is there a known problem for these machines working under load? Maybe a workaround?

Any help is appreciated !
