Camera does not work on anything but the camera app on Dell Chromebook 11 3100
Basically what the subject says. Every time I try to do a video conference on Zoom or Google Meet and I try to turn on my camera, it gives me an error message like the one below:
However in the camera app, I'm able to operate the front camera just fine:
It leads me to believe there is an issue with some app in the background that is using the camera or some kind of settings I can change. The camera itself is not damaged, but I guess some of the camera software is? I have attempted to powerwash my chromebook too. It doesn't work. I'm at a loss as to what I can do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check whether the camera driver is normal, it is recommended that you uninstall and then reinstall. Or download and install the latest driver, you can use the "Driver Wizard" software.

The previous comment makes no sense. There is no camera driver in Chrome OS, and there is no way to uninstall or install drivers on Chromebooks.

The weird part about all this is that DroidCam is the only other app/software that is able to access the front facing camera besides the default camera app (when I connected DroidCam to my Windows laptop). I don't know whether it's a problem with Chrome or Chrome OS and how DroidCam can bypass the restriction. If anyone has any insight to it, it would be greatly appreciated!

I am using Chrome OS Version 84.0.4147.127. I used the Chrome OS built in camera app and Droid Cam and they both work. Nothing else works (Zoom, Discord, Google Meet, etc.).

Chrome OS doesn't have drivers. Do Smart Driver Care or Driver Booster exist for Chrome OS? Or maybe for Linux?

No, those driver programs do not work in any way with Chrome OS. The person who posted that comment, suggesting that you fix your Chromebook webcam problem by modifying drivers on your PC, clearly does not know what they are talking about. Why would a person give PC advice on a Chromebook forum that has no application whatsoever to Chromebooks?

The client signed in during the Chrome OS update (to 78) winds up with adulterated settings (incapable to discover them explicitly). Erasing that client record and afterward re-including it, clears up the camera issue. The camera ought to be working, except if it is an equipment issue

I am also a user of Dell Chromebook and I also facing this same issue during my attending classes on zoom and google meeting room. Due to this I am facing many problems like I am not able to attend my class live and I am not able ask any question to my teacher. If you find any solution please share here.

Have you checked your permissions?
In chrome go to settings, privacy and security, site settings, camera, make sure nothing is blocked.
After that you might try a hardware reset.
If that fails a power wash is your best bet.

Amazing all the people suggesting to reinstall the windows drivers. I hope you have this fixed after 6 months, but Chromebooks were transitioning from the chrome webstore app to a builtin app, then a later chrome version accidentally omitted the builtin camera app, causing people to reinstall the old webstore app....THEN the next chrome update restored the builtin app, and BOTH versions were attempting to start at the same time. Uninstall the other camera app that is in chrome://extensions/ This has really buggered up people trying to work or attend school at home, at the worst possible time. And there was no fix announced by the computer manufacturer or Google.

How did you install and set up Droidcam client in Chrome OS?
