VNX/Datamover/Memory upgrade?

We have some VNX5400, they are about 2 years into usage, we use them as a target to migrate from various legacy storage platforms (and it is a backup target).

2X datamovers, 33 file systems, 28 replications (mostly VMware NFS datastores, some CIFS)

Memory usage now over 85%, slowly growing over time as usage increased, therefore do not think a memory leak is involved...

Is it possible to UPGRADE the actual amount of MEMORY in the datamover?

or

Do we need to get a new pair of datamovers and split the file systems?

greater MEMORY size?

Thanks.

no memory upgrade possible on the DM

if you don't have actual performance problems I wouldn't worry unless you hit an issue

Thanks Rainer,

We still have disk capacity to go through with more services being migrated into the VNX5300, probably about 75% complete.

As we migrate these remaining services, there is concern that the used% of MEM will incrementally increase (as it has done so far per migration) to a very high % number.

Then we would see the actual bumps up by a few % each time and we have seen that clearly in the charts from M&R.

What % is considered to be a "critical" level on the DME for memory consumption?  90/95/99?

So, based upon what you stated...there is not a way to swap out the MEM to bring them up to 12GB in the DME?

Then the capacity growth option would be to add another DME, and then split the shares between them?

I don't think we have ever supported increasing the memory on the data mover

You can DIP to a VNX model that has DM with more CPU and memory though

I am not aware of a hard critical level

yes adding another DM and distributing the loss helps
