Setup M6220 & M8024

Hello,

we have here a new M1000e.
In fabric A1/A2 are the M6220 switches installed, in fabric B1/B2 are the M8024 installed.

If i now want to setup the switches, for example the M6220, i cant set an ip address.
Under "Setup -> Networksetting" (sorry for the bad translation form German to englisch) i can't set an ip. I have here a message like "this device does not support ethernet management".
Also i have no fields for DHCP, IP, Subnet and Gateway.

The same Situation at the M8024.

Does anybody have any idea whats going wrong here?

Do you have DHCP on the network the CMC is plugged into? If so the switches should pickup a DHCP address automatically. I'm pretty sure its a default operation, but it might be disabled in your chassis.

All M6220 and M8024 switches support IP management.

1) What version of firmware is the CMC running?
This can be seen in the CMC WebUI under the chassis summary screen or under the update tab at the top.

2) What firmware version are the switches running?
If you console into the switches you can use the following commands to see the firmware version and boot code.
console# show version
console# show boot-version

3) Under the CMC Update tab in the WebUI do you see anything referring to the IOMINF? If so, this means the IOMINF needs to be updated. If the IOMINF does NOT need to be updated then you will NOT see the IOMINF referenced under the CMC Update tab. If the IOMINF needs to be updated you will most likely see one for each switch inserted in the chassis. For example, if you have switches in fabrics A and B then you may see IOMINF-1, IOMINF-2, IOMINF-3, and IOMINF-4. There will be a checkbox next to each one for them to be selected and updated individually. To update you simply select one at a time and click the "begin firmware update" or "apply" button available and follow the prompts. WARNING!!! UPDATING THE IOMINF WILL CAUSE THE SWITCHES TO REBOOT.

The reason I mention the IOMINF updates is because this is the backend interface used for communication between the CMC and IO Modules in the chassis. If these are not updated you can see all kinds of weird flakey issues with the switches in the chassis because the CMC doesn't know how to register them correctly.

Also, here's a helpful article for setting up the chassis, servers, and IO Modules from the ground-up. Although, this article was written before the 3.x CMC firmware was released. So there may be some minor differences.
