M620 Initializes, iDRAC is accessible, but blade refuses to power on.

I have a M620 that will initialize when inserted in a M1000e, the iDRAC is accessible and all BMC functions appear to work. However, the system refuses to actually power on. The green LED in the front panel power button will blink forever.

This is not an issue of power supplies, power reservations, power capping, or power budgeting. This is the only blade that exhibits this problem, all other blades power up as expected. It is also not a problem with the chassis, as the problem follows the blade.

Sometimes, very random, the system will actually power up by reseating the entire blade... however, that only works about 10% of the time at most. On the rare occasion it does power on, you can then do anything as expected, all functionality works, and it will reboot without issue. It will keep working just fine until you remove the blade from the m1000e.

Does the M1000e's CMC list any errors? If not, I would launch an SSH session to the CMC and collect the output of the commands 'racdump' and 'dumplogs." This would create a really large text file, but the information as to what is happening should be contained within. Searching by slot number is generally how I do it.

I had a similar problem today with a M640 in a VRTX...

Problem was solved...

In the CMC select Chassis Overview and Troubleshooting

Then go to reset components

Select your M620 board and select virtual reset from the drop down menu

It will reinitialize and then you can power on

If your CMC is redundant... In the same reset menu you can initiate a failover to the second CMC. This should help (this tip I've got from the system engineer from my case today)
