M1000e upgraded CMC 6.21, and VMware 6.0 -> 6.7, now Host os doesnt display

Hello team,

We recently upgraded several M1000's from to CMC 6.21 and all servers to latest firmware drivers (M630).

We have noticed that since we upgraded to esxi 6.7 (Dell ISO), that CMC doesn't display correct Operating system.

What we also noticed is that when we had 6.0 Esxi host reported to CMC from iDrac Operating System.

Now it reports same line from iDRAC, but this line is DellEMC-VMware ESXi, and line below that called Operating system version shows correct version, but it doesn't translate to CMC.

Anyone has same / similar issue ?

@Odissea, Can you access iDRAC on the blade server and check whether iDRAC is displaying hostname and operating system details.

Hi @DELL-Shine K ,

thank you for your answer, as you can see, no Hostname and dellEMC-VMware ESXi as OS

Best Regards

iDRAC Operating system attribute is mapped to CMC that is why you are not seeing OS version on CMC. You can refer below link on changing os name and version on iDRAC from esxi. You can follow the link and set Operating System name to include version and see the same details on CMC.

Hello @DELL-Shine K  ,

thank you for your answer, I did check the link you have posted but maybe I was non precise enough in explaining my concern.

My real problem is that the hostname is not retrieved from the host and the slot name didn't get populated correctly.

Here is a  screenshot of 2 servers, the first does not get the hostname while the second yes.

Both have OS Name and version even though the OS Name is DellEMC-VMware ESXi (which for me is fair enough)

What i really need is the slot name automatically populated.

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards

For some reason I am not able to see second screen shot.

CMC show slot name based on hostname shown in iDRAC. Looks like iDRAC does not have hostname for the system where it is not showing hostname as slotname.

To set hostname on iDRAC you can try below option

  1. You can install iSM on the server so that iDRAC can get the hostname and that will be displayed instead of slotname.
  2. Run below ipmitool command to set hostname on iDRAC

ipmitool -I lanplus -H -U -P mc setsysinfo system_name

You need to have ipmi over lan enabled on iDRAC before running above command

Can you also check the setting on below CMC page "Chassis Overview -> Sever Overview -> Setup -> Slot Names". Here you will get an option to set slot name as Hostname, iDRAC DNS Name or user defined name for slot name.
