Can you use Dell FM120x4 blades in an FX2s chassis?

Can you use Dell FM120x4 blades in an FX2s chassis? I saw in the CMC a setting to map PCIe slots for bays 3 & 4 to bays 1 & 2, so could you have FC630 in bays 1 & 2 with 4 PCIe slots mapped to each and then two FM120x4 in bays 3 & 4 with no PCIe slots attached to them?

I briefly tried to get this working using a bare FM120x4 mainboard, by inserting it into the slot using a cardboard tray I made, but after inserting it into the midplane I saw no activity on the board and the CMC also did not acknowledge anything was installed in the slot. Perhaps it was because the front panel I/O cable wasn't connected to the mainboard?

Hello Hopperkin,

The FX2 supports the FM120x4, FC620, and FC420. The FM120x4 can only use the FX2 chassis, because it does not require the PCI slots.

The FX2s supports the FC420 and FC620 (not the FM120x4). These products can take advantage of both the PCI slots and I/O pass-through modules.

That’s not what I asked. With the FX2s you can map four PCIe slots to one blade. If you do this for blades one and two, then blades slots three and four will not be attached to any PCIe slots... which is identical to the configuration provided by the FX2 chassis. So in this configuration mode, can you then install FM120x4 blades into slots three and four?

Hi,

To sum up, no, you can't install FM120x4 in FX2s. FX2s does not support FM120x4.
