Avamar Proxy VM - Change the default credential
I had an audit and they requested to not use the default credentials for the proxy VM. I am not the one who installed it.
Is the user admin with the password avam@r used for the communication between the backup and virtualization system with the proxy? Is there a problem if I delet this user? How to add a new one?

You should not make any changes to the admin user except changing the pw- and you can also change the OS root pw as well.
Avamar proxy virtual machine is set with a default password which is documented and of public knowledge. This can be exploited by malicious users having access to the network hence administrators should change proxy OS root password once the proxy is deployed.
Instructions
Administrator should change proxy Operation system passwords after proxy is deployed to ensure the security compliance.
Follow the steps to reset the passwords.
Change root user password
1. Open a command shell and log in to the proxy as root.
2. Type command passwd
3. Type the current guest operating system root password, and then press Enter.
4. Type the new guest operating system root password, and then press Enter.
5. Confirm the new password by typing it again, and then pressing Enter.
Change admin user password
6. Type command passwd admin
7. Type the new guest operating system root password, and then press Enter.
8. Confirm the new password by typing it again, and then pressing Enter.
9. To exit the command shell type exit
