Powering Alienware m16 R2 via Thunderbolt port

I have an Alienware m16 R2 laptop. I am planning to get a Thunderbolt Hub. Most hubs can provide power to the laptop via its Thunderbolt port. The power provided depends on the make/model of the dock (I've seen from 60 watts to 100 watts).

Question:

1. How much power does a Thunderbolt dock need to provide so that I don't need to connect the laptop's OEM power supply, and still get full use of the laptop (such as playing games that consume power)?

2. If the laptop's OEM power supply is connected to the laptop, is the power from the Thunderbolt hub not used then?

3.I assume it's okay for the laptop's OEM power supply to be connected while the laptop is plugged into the Thunderbolt dock)?

Thanks.

1.  Using the same power requirement from your AC power adapter, the thunderbolt dock must provide between 240w to 280w.  It's unlikely to achieve with just one thunderbolt port.

2.  When using the laptop AC power adapter, the thunderbolt port will stop the power delivery from the dock.

3.  Yes, it's okay and recommended to use the laptop AC power adapter while connecting to the dock.
