m17 R4, AWCC not detecting AlienFX hardware

Alienware m17 R4

Alienware m17 R4

After a recent Alienware Command Center update, the AWCC is no longer detecting my AlienFX hardware. The warranty expired April 2022.

The keyboard lights are still working and still the same settings I previously used, even though I've repeatedly tried repairing, resetting, uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

I even tried reupdating all hardware drivers, the BIOS, pretty much everything, didn't work.

I did a couple of system restores to previous working conditions, but nothing, still didn't work.

I ran the Dell scan and it gave no issues, the fan works during the diagnostics but then it pretty much turns off, the RGB lights are still working, the power LED wasn't working but after the first system restore, it came back on, I had hope that would mean the AWCC was working, but nope.

I've already been uninstalling with RevoUninstall.

This issue is particularly vexing, as I don't really want to run my laptop with the fans either not working or else being on the lowest setting possible, i already feel a lot more heat coming out of the vents than usual.

I've pretty much tried everything and it's still not working, I really don't want to do a factory reset, especially since I've read several other support issues that have tried that route to no avail!

Okay, I solved the issue myself!

I had to go into the registry,  Run>regedit.exe>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Alienware>Alienware Command Center

I then had to left click to Permissions and change 'Full Control' back to 'Allow' for each user, either the update changed these or Windows itself somehow took back control during the update process.

But whatever happened, this solved it!

Solved it myself!

Had to go into the registry

Run>regedit.exe>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Alienware>Alienware Command Center

Left-click to Permissions and reset Full Control to "Allow" for all users.

That solved the problem!

Sorry if this is a repost, it's not allowing me to post, for some reason?

Joe Servo,

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.
Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.
