m15 R5, BIOS update causes display issues and power button flashes red 2 times and blue 7 times

Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5

Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5

After accepting some recommended auto updates (don't know what BIOS version I was on previously as I never intentionally go out of my way to update a BIOS). I noticed that during the update process the fans went into overdrive (never heard it that loud before) then the screen went black. After it rebooted, I noticed the 2 RED 7 BLUE code flashing which after some research refers to "Display failure - SBIOS message".  The only way I can see anything is if I plug in an external display.

I've attempted the RTC method as per this article but considering the laptop screen itself won't work I don't know whether there is a way to tell if it actually did anything. I just saw that the alien power button flashed red a few times. After that I attempted to follow the remaining steps however the BIOS tool won't let you rollback.

I can't try CTRL+ESC method since I can't see a thing on the laptop screen to attempt the BIOS recovery (external display won't work until Windows loads).

Considering I've seen a couple other posts of other people encountering the same issue after a BIOS update it is highly unlikely that we all suffered hardware failures straight after. If we did, then it would be due to the BIOS itself which is a problem which DELL should be addressing.

Other related posts which I saw that are reporting the same issue:

Hi all,

A bridge BIOS is available for installation. If you need to downgrade to a previous version due to issues with the latest update, please contact tech support via the "Get Help Now" chat button located at the bottom right corner of the page.

Kindly inform them that you are experiencing a No Video issue after updating the BIOS on your m15 Ryzen Edition R5 and that you require the bridge BIOS to perform the downgrade.

Performing RTC reset may clear 2, 7 error.  Press and hold power button method.

To perform BIOS recovery, remove the boot drive from your laptop, put the BIOS recovery image onto a FAT32 formatted USB (non-bootable).  Plug the USB to your system.

Press and hold Esc + Ctrl key and connecting AC adapter to your laptop.  When you see the keyboard backlight lights up, let go of the Esc + Ctrl key and the BIOS recovery screen should be triggered.  Select Recover BIOS, hit Enter to start the process.  If the recovery screen did not appear, repeat the process of holding Esc + Ctrl key while introduce power to the laptop to trigger the process.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on the 17th after some update it forced me to install. Considered throwing the junk in the bin but if this is a fix I will look into it
