m15 R3, cannot update newest BIOS 1.5, Overclocking CPU error

Hi all,

Last night, I tried to update the firmware BIOS 1.5 through Alienware Update app and SupportAssist but unsuccessful, both processes were stuck at the installing for several hours. Then I tried to install the BIOS manually with the file on dell support website; however it have the error:

"Error !! the CPU is Over Clocking

You are about the flash your BIOS, make sure Over Clocking is turn off.

Press "Cancel" button to stop the flash process if it is enabled"

The error above did not allow me to press ok to continue, only the cancel button

My CPU is listed as 10th Generation Intel Core i7- 10750H (6-Core, 12MB Cache, up to 5.1GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)

As I know Dell locks the ability to overclock CPU on my laptop (cannot do it with Alienware Command Center, I can only overclock GPU through it); is my laptop factory overclocking? Any help or solution to update the newest BIOS.

Thank you and best regards,

Home page of AWCC, bottom right there's a tab to select which OC profile you want, select OC off.

I have updated 2020 M15 R3  to Bios 1.5.0 no issues. I don't OC tho.

Hopefully this doesn’t happen to you again.

I have similar problem when updating the BIOS through the Alienware Update, will stopping the OC alone do the trick to install the BIOS update in Alienware Update successful (not the flash BIOS)?

Probably.

Hi SanMiguel24,

I had the same issue as you. I wasn’t able to install the bios update even after clicking the no overlock in ACC. I found something on Reddit that did work though, it required you to default your bios. Just have to restart your computer and keep mashing F2, once the setup screen shows, you want to click on the ‘optimize defaults’ button on the right hand side then save and exit (also on right). Your computer will restart.

Login and then try to install the bios you downloaded from the Dell site. Hopefully this helps.

Cheers!

I do have the same problem. As I go to the AWCC on the bottom right I tuned off the Overclock but I still can't press the OK button as I try to flash my BIOS. When I go to the FUSION tap and look there at the Overclock there are two profiles Overclock 01 and Overclock 02 where it says they are activated and I can't switch to deactivated on the button of the profiles. I do have a R13.

Thanks for the help.

First of all thanks a lot for the help. I'm not a genius in computer science but as I run your advice, do I have to fix any settings after installing the BIOS that I will get the same performance and setting as now, or will that be set automatically?
