15 R3, AW2518H, HDMI, no 240Hz?

I have recently purchased an Alienware AW2518h and hooked it up to my Alienware 15 r3 with the GTX 1070. When I go to the Nvidia control panel, the option for G-sync and 240hz does not show up, is it my HDMI cable, is my laptop itself, or is it a completely different problem?

@Cald_Bock  last time I checked, G-Sync only works over DisplayPort.

@Cald_Bock  they've been around for QUITE a long time, so any brand name version should be fine.  I've had consistently good experiences with Cable Matters, Cables To Go, StarTech, and even AmazonBasics.  Any of them should be perfectly fine. Good luck!

@Cald_Bock  I forgot to add that I don't know what revision of HDMI the Alienware 15 R3 and AW2518H support, but if it's not HDMI 2.0 on both sides -- and you're not using an HDMI cable specifically rated for HDMI 2.0 (sometimes called a High Speed or 18 Gbps cable) -- then that would explain why you can't use 240 Hz, because older revisions of HDMI don't support enough bandwidth to run 1080p 240 Hz.  Although come to think of it, I'm not 100% sure that HDMI 2.0 will support that configuration even though it does have the raw bandwidth to carry that signal.  DisplayPort definitely has enough bandwidth for that, and as I said earlier, last I checked G-Sync could only be run over DisplayPort.

So if you get yourself a Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to connect that display to your system's Mini-DisplayPort output, you should be good to go.
