Aurora R15 AMD - Dual Caddy 3.5 sata to 2x 2.5
Alienware Aurora R15 AMD
Hi all,
Super excited about my new AMD R15 with RTX4080. It came with a 2TB HDD preinstalled. According to the manual, I can purchase a caddy that can fit two 2.5 SATA drives in the same enclosure. Unfortunately, I cannot find any more information about the part number or how to install the drives.
Has anyone done this before? Or can somebody point me toward an info page?
Another question: would an external SSD drive be much slower than the SSD SATA drives? I want to install games on the external.
Thanks!

Not sure why you purchased it with a 2 TB HDD, as that will hamper performance.
The system supports NVME 2280 drives, so I would install 2 of those and make one the boot drive.
Use the HDD for backup purposes only.

Though the SATA interface is older than PCIe, latest generation provides transfer rates of up to 6GB/s.
Your external USB data transfer speed will be directly affected by the USB generation and the transfer rates of the cable. USB-A interfaces are slower than USB-C connections
USB - C
USB 3.1 Gen 2- 10 Gb/s
USB 3.1 Gen 1 - 5 Gb/s
USB - A
USB 3.1 Gen 1 - 5 Gb/s
USB 3.0 - 5 Gb/s

@Vanadiel it also came with a 1TB 2280 preinstalled, and I could add a second one, but since this is the AMD, it would require for me to remove the GPU. I'm hoping not having to do that, but we’ll see.

@redxps630
Thanks for the links! Would I have to buy both? I'm still unsure how would I connect the two 2.5 drives to the computer though. I cannot find any breakdowns or info online, unfortunately.

@Cronnos I would do that and get one of the 4 TB 2280's that are on sale right now. It makes a lot of sense if you are planning on installing games on it.
It will load much faster than any SATA solution, and taking out the video card and putting it back in is simple: Service Manual

either one is okay. the caddy can fit two 2.5. the whole caddy then fits like a 3.5 hdd in the R15 caddy. user pic of 8960 which has same metal chassis as R15
