When I looked at the Dell website I saw that Dell recommended Killer E2X00 and E3000 Gigabit Ethernet Controller, Version: 2.1.1295 ,A14. When I applied this update I checked Device Driver and I still saw the old driver version so I was at a loss as to why the driver didn't get updated. After doing some further browsing I came across this important, but not obvious, statement:
After you install the package, the Killer E2400 and E2500 LAN driver version in Device Manager is 9.0.0.49
This explains why Device Driver still shows "the older driver version".
