moving from one laptop to another

Dell has replaced my laptop. using W7/64.

I first tried Easy Transfer and it seems not everything moved (I moved via a USB hard drive) as my task bar and desktop are not the same and missing stuff.

I then upgraded DBAR on the new laptop. I tried to use it on the old one but the activation code only works on the new PC. So how can I get this running on the old laptop?

Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I really dont want to have to reinstall all my tools and apps.

THanks leon

I really dont want to have to reinstall all my tools and apps.

You will have to.

I will be buying a new PC soon, and I am not looking forward to spending hours re-installing my software.

The only time you should clone an old hard drive is if your hard drive dies and you are replacing it in the same PC.

HI there...I'm not looking to "clone" as in a image copy but I do want to be able to back it up and restore my apps  and desktop.

this new laptop is basically the same laptop I already have since it's being replaced.

What about the DBAR why can't I use it on another PC? I should be able to use it as a migration tool?

Thanks leon
