deleting windows XP

My friend wants to delete windows XP from his computer to install something different. Now I know for my computer I had to go through the setup in beginning and delete

all the partitions and start over. But he has a gateway computer and I don't know how to access it from those computers.. any help? or any help on how I can delete windows XP for him so he can install the other operatiing system?

On the assumption that your friend's hard disk is formatted with the NTFS file system, you will need a Windows 9X emergency boot floppy (if you don't have one, you can download one from here). Boot to a DOS prompt using that floppy disketted then run FDISK (instructions here) after which you can run FORMAT, then install the new operating system.

If your friend wants to install Linux or UNIX, you don't have to do anything, the installation of the new O/S will/can remove Windows XP.

Simply insert windows cd in the cd drive. Boot from cd rom. And at the command prompt, type: format

after that all data in your hard drive will be deleted.
