Cannot recieve e-mails with Outlook Express

BT helpdesk are unable to fix this problem from thier Indian helpdesk, so I thought I would try you guys rather than the suggested call out an engineer.
 
All of a sudden Iam getting this error message from Outlook Express
 
 Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
 
Anybody know what it means or how I can fix it please?

If you didn't change your account setup, it sounds like the BT mail server has a problem or at least the mail server's "log on" server. 
 
I have RoadRunner (in the US) and occasionally I'll get a similar error and it's because RoadRunner is having a problem (even tho they never admit to any problems).  The problem always goes away by itself.

Its working now, wiether it was as you said, or the fact I re-played the BT internet hub installation disk?, but Iam mad the guy told me to call out an engineer!
