help...winfixer2005 pop up and nothing works

ive tried reading all the previous forums but nothing works for me.. heres a log of HJT

Hello and Welcome fyeung,


If you don't already have it, download, install and run AdAware SE Personal.

Next, check for, and download any available updates:

1.  click "Check for updates now".
2.  Click "Connect".
3.  If updates(definitions) are available click "Ok", otherwise, click "Ok".
4.  Click "Finish".

-

Next, configure AdAware to be as effective as possible:

1.  Click the 'gear' in the upper-right hand corner of the AdAware Window.
2.  Click Scanning, and check(tick) the following:

    Scan within archives
    Scan active processes
    Scan registry
    Deep-scan registry
    Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLs
    Scan my Hosts file

3.  Click "Tweak".
4.  Click "Scanning Engine", then check(tick) the following:

    Unload recognized proceses & modules during scan

5.  Click "Cleaning Engine", then check(tick) then following:

    Always try to unload modules before deletion
    During removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary
    Let Winodws remove files in use at next reboot
    Delete quarantined objects after retoring

6.  Then click "Proceed"

Now, let AdAware locate and remove anything it finds, by:

1.  Click "Start".
2.  Check(tick) "perform full system scan".
3.  Click "Next".

-

Exit the program.


If you don't already have it, download, install and run Spybot S & D. Next, update the current definitions by:

Next, check for, and download any available updates:

1. Click "Search for Updates".
2. Check(tick) all available updates.
3. Click "Download Updates".
4. Click "Search & Destroy".
5. Click "Check for Problems".

-

When the scan is completed:

1. Check(tick) everything that was found.
2. Click "Fix selected problems".

-

Click "Ok", then exit the program.

When running an Ewido scan no windows or programs should be open!. Do not use the Computer while the Ewido scan is running!

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu."
Launch ewido, there should be a big "E" icon on your desktop, double-click it.
The program will prompt you to update; click the "OK" button
The program will now go to the main screen
Update ewido:
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. After the updates are installed, exit ewido.
Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please make sure you can see hidden folders.

How to see hidden files in Windows.


Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

* Now open Ewido Security Suite
Click on scanner

* Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
* When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
* Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido



Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

    Viewpoint Manager

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

Please disable SpySweeper so hijackthis can fix entries:

Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction".


Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Remember to enable Spy Sweeper .

Please do not panic if you cannot delete items with hijackthis. There is another fix coming.

doesnt work, i cant delete the csrv.dll, tried using killbox...i dont know if i can go into the registry and delete it

Hi tyeung,

Please post another hijackthis log so I can see what was eliminated. There is another fix coming up for the csrv.dll.

Here's the fix.

You may have to disable SpySweeper again!

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe from  http://www.atribune.org/downloads/VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan from http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Let’s try this fix.

Download and install CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/.  Don't run it yet.

Browse to your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Delete all the files in the Prefetch folder, but do not delete the Prefetch folder itself. Empty your Recycle Bin. Run CCleaner

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals and extract it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Download KillBox and extract it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Download FixVundo.reg and save it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Double-click on procexp.exe which is the Process Explorer that we downloaded earlier.

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of csrv.dll and click on the kill button. If you see any files listed that are the same name but end with .bak or .ini or a .tmp or are the name in reverse, you can kill those as well. Example: vrsc.bak, vrsc.ini, vrsc.tmp

For example (also check for reverse-vrsc):

After you have killed all of the instances of the DLL under winlogon click on the OK button.

Now double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of the DLL you determined to be part of the infection. Once they are highlighted click on the Kill button like you did before. If you have disabled the BHO (O2) in some manner, you will not find this dll listed in this step and can move on.

When this is done, click on the OK button again.

Please temporarily disable Spy Sweeper so hijackthis fixes can take place.

Now run HijackThis again, close all windows, and press the Scan button.
Place a check next to each of these entries.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\csrv.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: csrv - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\csrv.dll

Once all the entries are checked, press the Fix button and then exit HijackThis.

Now double-click on the FixVundo.reg file that you downloaded earlier and allow it to merge the information.

Double-click on Killbox.exe that you downloaded and extracted earlier. Select the delete on reboot option. Then enter the full path to the DLL that is part of this infection into the Full path of file to delete field. In our example symptoms the full path of the file would be:

C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\csrv.dll

Click the red circle with the white X and select Yes to the delete prompt but Yes to reboot now.

Browse to your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Delete all the files in the Prefetch folder, but do not delete the Prefetch folder itself. Empty your Recycle Bin. Run CCleaner

Please post another hijackthis log.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Congratulations tyeung! :smileyhappy: Your log looks clean - good work!

Reboot your computer, and try using different programs and make sure everything is running ok. If your still experiencing problems, post back any concerns or problems you may be having and wait for any advice before continuing with the cleanup.

Download, install and run Cleanup! from Steven Gould, then:
1. Click " Cleanup!"
  ( wait for the program to finish scanning your system, and selecting files to be removed.)
2. Exit the program and reboot the computer, if necessary.

If everything is running ok, let's do the final cleanup...

1.  Run " Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove everything it finds. Click Start ==>Run ==> Enter "cleanmgr" without the quotes.
2.  If you've downloaded MicroWorld AV ( MWAV), run it again - but don't scan, just click " Clear Log" and exit the program.
3.  Go to www.trendmicro.com and click " Free Online Scan", then " Scan now, it's free!". When it's downloaded, select all available drives, then check(tick) " Auto clean", then click " Scan".
4.  Run AdAware SE Personal and " perform a full system scan", then Spybot S&D, and " Check for Problems". Let them both remove the residual 'problems' left that HiJackThis couldn't fix.
5.  Disable, then re-enable system restore; with a reboot in-between. Then immediately create a new system point manually. This will clear out the restore/archive files which may still contain infected files.

If you have some extra time, let's review ways to help avoid an 'infected' system both now, and in the future.

Change your passwords now and on a regular basis.

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
2. Click once on the Security tab
3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
a. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
b. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
c. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
d. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
e. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
f. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
g. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
h. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperative that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
