Notebook doesn't recognize Blank CD/DVDs
Hi,
I just bought a Dell Precision M2800 (early 2014).
I can play DVDs and CDs normally but I when i put a blank CD or DVD to burn it, it doesn't recognize it and tells me "Please insert a disk in the DVD drive". I tried many solutions from this forum but none of them worked for me. I tried burning the same DVDs and CDs in others notebooks and they worked perfectly.
Please tell me what can i do.

As you may have already figured out, you have a ROM (read-only) drive, and cannot burn discs. You do have the option of replacing that drive with a DVD-RW drive that will burn discs.

Hi Jacowaco4,
Please check device manager and locate the model of your DVD drive. When you post back, please mention the OS.

I hadn't figured out, thanks for explaining it to me.
I can't believe Dell sold me a modern notebook that comes with a read-only drive. Didn't even know they existed.

I have a fairly new Lenovo Thinkpad and it came with a DVD-ROM drive. Honestly, I hardly use it. Many new laptops do not include any optical drive.
