U2719DC, MacBook Pro updated, external speakers, no sound

Hey,

So I've had my Dell U2719DC Monitor for a while now and have absolutely loved it. I connect it to my MacBook Pro through USB-C and Bose Companion 2 speakers and have never had any problems. Until the last MacOS update (Big Sur 11.3). After updating, I noticed audio has stopped outputting through the Displayport to the speakers (which it has always been using the audio jack plugged into the monitor), and the only work around is to take the audio jack from the speakers out of the monitor and plug it directly to the MacBook Pro audio jack.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Have any recommendation to fix it?

I'm experiencing this same issue, both on an Intel and M1 Mac. Did you find a fix?

Hi guys, I'm experiencing the same problem with a U2721DE and a 16" MacBook Pro (currently running macOS 11.3.1). Via USB-C, everything works except sound via external speakers connected to the audio-out of the monitor.

However, I get working sound if I use a DisplayPort cable with DisplayPort to USB-C adapter on the MacBook, so not really sure what the actual problem is and of course I wanna use PD, network and all the goodies that come with the USB-C connection, so the workaround with USB-C to DisplayPort adapter is not a solution for me.

Couldn't test with macOS versions before 11.3 since I just got the monitor a few days ago, maybe Dell support can help us here?

EDIT: did some more research on the macOS 11.3 update and seems like this is definitely the cause, see here =
macOS 11.3 Displayport Audio problem

So we probably have to wait until Apple (hopefully) releases a fix. Also, 11.4 still has the problem according to some posts.

Same here, MacBook Pro 16" 2019 - USB-C connection, and no sound out of audio line out port from either Dell U2721DE or U2719DC monitors.

The update to Monterey did not work out, so subscribing to get updates on this annoying issue

No sound on my MacBook Pro Max 16 inch and Dell Ultrasharp U2720Q monitor either.

Same here on a Ultrasharp U2421E with MBP Pro 16 and Monterey 12.1...

Same here. macOS Big Sur (11.6.2). Dell U2719DC Monitor. No audio.

I'm connected via HDMI, not DisplayPort, but the Mac still says "DisplayPort" in the dialog, which is incorrect.

On a separate note, as soon as I connected the display even the integrated Ethernet was not seen connected by my MacBook Pro 16 with Intel processor, but a display firmware upgrade to latest version from Dell (M3T102) fixed the issue.
Unsure if this is on Apple side or Dell, though...

Out of curiosity, how did you perform the firmware upgrade? I might give it a shot (My monitor is on M3T101)

Thanks for the reply.

I guess there isn't a firmware update for the U2721DE monitor available for macOS, and the firmware for the U2719DC seems older than the one I already have on my U2719DC monitor (M3T106 vs M3T207). At least, I don't see it on the website.

I was curious since I believed I checked already and never found a solution or a newer firmware available and that could be applied from mac and then I read that you had a MacBook Pro as well and found a fix... so it got me hopeful again.

Guess I'll be stuck with this for a while... still, thanks again

You can download the firmware upgrade from Dell Website and execute the package while the monitor is connected.

Hope this helps.

Wondering if anybody was able to resolve this issue. I can't figure out how things were fine on Mojave, then as soon as I update to Monterey, the sound doesn't work.
