Temperature: Those with i8600 & new 9600 Pro

I have seen some benchmark results already, but noone has posted any operating temperatures. Can someone with this new setup please use i8kfanGUI or a similar program to measure the temperature the M10 gets up to (preferably in celcius) after some gaming/ application use?

It would be interesting to know.... and important for those of us wanting to upgrade our i8500's to use this card (if its anywhere near as hot as the FX5650, then its not good as would probably need to be underclocked to avoid system shutdowns and other problems).

Does anybody have any further information on dell spare parts getting the 9600 Pro Turbo in stock?

Not yet, it usually takes 1-2 months after a new release for them to free up some stock for Spare Parts.... it has only been about 2 weeks so we're looking at another 2-3 weeks in the best case I would say.

And back on topic, has anyone measured the temperatures yet? I'm dying to know.

hmmmm, 46-50 deg celcius sounds like it would be okay, but I'll wait until you or someone else can post some figures after some gaming... to see if it gets much hotter. But at that temperature we may have a winner!

well, i been playing cod, and the card only gets 55c, only thing getting hot is my memory, about 80c, this is flat on a table, power management set to always on so processor stays at 1.6gh. playing at 1024x768 to get full screen, i dont like the black bars on the side, and havent figured out how to get widescreensettings on the game.

Only 55deg celcius! Thats great! That mean heat will likely not be an issue with installing it in the i8500. Now all we have to do is wait until it is released as a spare part to see if it is supported by the BIOS and will function.

That memory temperature is fine, it is often the hottest component in laptops, so don't stress about that.

Most games automatically go to widescreen, however I think that some games don't support widescreen and will 'letterbox' themselves so they can be played..... COD might be one of them, look through the game options to see if you have a widescreen option (I know SC4, Jedi Academy, C&C: Generals & Vice City all automatically widescreen because those are what I have installed on mine... COD just might not have that option).

What about the fan activity with both regular office/surf use, and gaming? Is it quiet?

FWIW there have been some suggestions that the GPU and DIMM temperatures for the D-Series notebooks are flip-flopped.  Check out these posts for info:

The evidence seems to support this.  And, as an additional, related-but-not note, I have seen the FanGUI 'DIMM' (probably GPU) temps on my M60 go as high as 101C (that's celcius!) after a bout of MOH and SOF.

Didn't know that DIMM and GPU temperature are swapped in FanGUI. Can anybody confirm that?

If that's the case, GPU gets awfully hot.

oooooooo, if thats true then its a right old kick in the pants for i8500 users wanting to upgrade............. I hope its not true.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the GPU and DIMM figures are flipped. 80 degrees C is bad news - my 4200go only hits 70 degrees fully overclocked. But then I suppose the 9600 is pretty low clocked on the 8600 so it doesn't represent much of an upgrade over the 4200go.

I hope they're not flipped..... I really want that card, I know it wont be much faster than 4200go for DX8 games, but for newer DX9 games it kicks 4200's azz. Only way we can see if it will work is to try, and so we wait..................

I don't know where you get the idea that the 9600 kicks the 4200go azz in DX9 games - that has yet to be established. Check out this benchmark, for example, where a 4600ti (which uses the same core as the 4200go) outpaces the 9600 Pro in Half Life 2. Of course that isn't conclusive proof of anything, and the 9600 will render more effects (although the difference is pretty marginal) but I doubt the 9600 will be that much faster for most DX9 games, especially with the low 337MHz core clock speed - it's no faster for Halo, for example.

Sorry, I probably should clarify a bit. I'm more of a visuals hog than a speed hog (though I prefer both ), and when I said it kicks azz I was referring to the visual output (DX9 features and stuff.... which the 4200go can't do) not speed/ framerate....... but of course, as you said I was making assumptions and we will have to wait for some proof.
