Dell XPS 17 L702x - orange light flashing then white

I left my laptop on over night (plugged in) as I have done many times in the past. I woke up to the battery light flashing 4 times orange and then once white. I had a look at http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19480859.aspx and checked the battery health which it said was fine. I tried to shut down and turn it on again but it said the battery has been disabled. So now I have removed the battery and have just got it plugged in and it's working fine. What do I do to fix this?

Hi s.mack,

Good to know that you have done a bit of research for yourself. You have done the right steps. If your battery is charging fine and has charged more than 15% I would suggest you to update the bios. Make sure you don’t interrupt the process and no external peripherals should be connected. Reply with your findings

Follow this link and punch in the service tag. Download the latest bios. Let me know if you have any concerns

My battery is charged but I can't turn my laptop on while it is in. When I have looked at other forums with people who have had similar problems most people seem to say that the problem has been fixed when they bought a new battery so I am looking at places to buy one from now.

You are right. You can try installing a new battery. Also please download this application and run a diagnostics on battery.

well like i mentioned previously I actually can't turn my laptop on with the battery in so I can't run a test on it.

I got a new battery today from a company off eBay (Dell wanted 3 times the price) and my laptop is now working fine. As with what I have read other people have experienced I believe my old battery just had a loose connection or something so it just wasn't registering anymore. 

I'm posting this in case other people have the same issue because what Dell offers as help has been useless for me. I can't run a diagnostic test on a battery that won't even register on my computer anymore. I had no way of turning it on with the battery in but apparently Dell has difficulty understanding that concept and then helping solve it.

Is DELL going to pay for the new battery? As today happened again for my second replacement, just a bit after the warranty (AGAIN). Wondering whether all are the same!
I would be happy to install a new one that wouldn't waist my time anymore in the middle of work.

My second battery bought for new just did it again today, same issue occurs after the same amount of time. Fact is (from an IT expert pov), they are made to last right after the warranty goes off . Simple business ;). Not conspiracy, just business. Please choose Dell with 0 confidence!
