Can the XPS M1330 output 1920x1080 resolution?
I am thinking about buying an XPS M1330 and would like to use it with my widescreen 1080p HDTV via HDMI or VGA. Can anyone
confirm that this machine can output the specific resolution of 1920x1080?
I have used other Dell laptops with this TV and while they can output up to 1920x1200, they cannot output 1920x1080. The television only supports specific resolutions and 1920x1200 is not supported.

But what is the point of connecting the computer to your TV? Is this so you can have a downloaded movie & play it through the larger TV?
My newest television was purchased in 1999, so I don't know about all these newfangled things. When I built my new laptop & it had a TV option, I thought, "um, okay. Huh?"

Also HD TVs are now high enough res to be used as a large monitor if you should choose to. And need I say how good gaming is on a big 42in LCD screen (although you won't do much of that on a 1330 as the 8400GS card won't cope).
As far as I can tell Nvidia cards will output either 1920x1200 or 1900x1080 not 1920x1080. Not sure why. Might be they just don't list every possible option in between.
However your display should still work. Maybe your problem is not the resolution but the refresh rate - I think something like 30hz for 1920x1200 would work.
Also note the limitations of the HDMI port on the 1330 here:

I've found some software that can help.
Link to Powerstripper
Powerstriper has a number of tweaks including forcing resolutions so you can output to your TV.
I don't know if there is a free software solution as PowerStripper has a lot of features that you won't need and it's possible there is some free software that just does resolution fixes.
Hope this helps.

The problem is with the Nvidia graphics cards not providing the resolution you want out of the box. If you go for a different brand like HP or Sony and they have the same graphics card the problem will still be there.
To get a graphics card that does 1920x1080 without software support you might need to get one with an ATI card.
The other alternative is a TV that will accept the higher resolution.
I am actually searching for a good HDTV right now so I will bear in mind what we've discussed when choosing but if I can't get a good TV that has support for outputs of 1920x1200 I might just use the software fix.
