Inspiron 7573, mouse connected, touchpad will not disable

Every time I plug in my mouse to my computer (Insprion 7573), my touchpad will not disable.

There is no option to disable to the touchpad when I go to it through device manager or under Mouse Settings. Also, I have tried going into the mobility center and there is no touchpad option on there as well.

I have read through all of the forum posts related to this topic as well and nothing has helped. If someone could please offer assistance I would greatly appreciate it.

Read through this =
Disabling or Enabling the Touchpad on a Dell Notebook

As far as why Windows 10 is not doing this automatically, no solution was found. We know it worked in prior versions of Windows 10, so what did they change? We never found out.

On my Latitude 5480, I click Start- Settings- Devices. Clicked Touchpad, Additional settings which brought up Mouse Properties. I clicked on, "Click to change Dell Touchpad settings", which brought up the Dell Touchpad driver app. Using this I can manually turn the Touchpad On and Off.

I found one Dell Touchpad driver here. See if it will install on your Inspiron 7573 and provide the same option.

Hi Chris,

Sorry I didn't see this previously. I downloaded the driver and it didn't do anything.

I have attached the screen that I see on my end and as you will see there is no Touchpad tab. Any other ideas?

This happen to me after a windows update, it took a while but I finally found a tech that knew how to fix it.

My solution was to install Dell Command Update 3.0 for windows 10, it found that I needed to update an "Intel IO driver. Once the Intel IO driver installed windows recognized it as a touchpad with options.

Dell Assistant and Dell Update could not find that I needed that driver I'm sticking with Dell Command Update 3.0. It also gives you control over what drivers are installed and when. May, or may not work for your model?

You might check the drivers in your download section for your Service Tag number and give that a try

Did you try the Intel IO drive install?

I installed Dell Command 3.0 and the Intel IO driver and it worked for a while, but now I am back where I started, I can't disable the touchpad again on my Dell 7573 laptop. It is extremely frustrating. When I go to Touchpad on my computer, there is nowhere to toggle it off.

Repeat the same driver install if it works, and you lose it again your probably having a hardware failure or Windows failure, You can try to repair you windows using Dism Tools

Open a Command window in Administrator mode

Copy and paste each tool in one at a time, be patient some will take quite a while is many repairs are required.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
SFC /scannow
chkdsk C: /f

Thanks, I did this yesterday and the first time I restarted my computer after using the DISM tools, the toggle option  to turn the touchpad on/off appeared. But, then this morning, when I turned on my computer, it did not show up again, so when I am using my mouse, the touchpad is still on and is a terrible experience.

Any other ideas?touchpad image.png

The touchpad will never be disabled unless of course if it is damaged.

It is a built-in feature.

And this is not the case with Dell. Every manufacturer makes their laptops this way.

All laptops have the ability to turn on/off the touchpad when a mouse is in use. I am just trying to see if there are any other troubleshooting ideas, as my touchpad cannot be turned off when my mouse is plugged in.

This is a false statement, With windows precision touchpads there is a setting in setting to turn off the trackpad when a mouse it present.

With a Non-Windows precision trackpad, the trackpad software itself will have the setting to turn off the Trackpad when a mouse is present.

Correct,

Since DISM was unable to fix you Windows. I would suggest a Repair Install to see if that can solve the conflict you are experiencing. How to repair Windows with aa in-place upgrade.

You won't lose any data or programs with this procedure. I do have to warn you that the MCT presently is creating 2004, I would not recommend using that version on a Dell Notebook, Many people are experiencing many issues with this new upgrade to windows. You can still get the 1909 version Using this free  tool

The tool directs you to MS Catalog files

I went ahead and turned on my computer this morning and the touchpad toggle on/off was no longer there, do I need to replace my keyboard or any other suggestions? So frustrating that it is fixed one day and then it is gone the next day.

Is there a way to remove the touchpad drivers completely to render it useless? Are use an external mouse anyway and I’m really just trying to shut off the touchpad completely.
