The safest way is to have the settings in "My Preferences" set to Expanded View. When you see the thread in this view, you post a response to the last post in the thread. The problem arises when you click the "Reply" link and begin to type your response. While you are doing that, someone else clicks the "Reply" link to the same post. That person finishes drafting their response and posts it. You finish later and when that response is posted it appears above the second person's reply, making it appear that you have deliberately broken into the thread. You can see by the difference in posting times between your response and Goonboy's (two minutes) that this is what happened.

The poster who appears in that position will often apologize to the other poster (as was the case here), but it's not required.

The reason why I don't keep mine on expanded view is because the left pane keeps refresing and moves to the top of the column. I find that annoying. If you know a way to keep that from hapenning, please let me know. Mark
