Replacing 920 with 950...just replace and reboot?
It will show up in bios and everything...?
I have a 920 ( should have gotten the OC 920) but that's a moot point.
I want to replace the 920 with the 950...any problems? It was an option on the site ( build your own) same socket, nm, wattage, cache size.
Not interested in OCing ( would invalidate warranty )
But 3. ghz seems to be the norm now a days..and with Turbo that should go to 3.4
Reason I ask is I can get one for 200 bucks ( same price Dell was asking for the OC version of 920...200 more then stock 920 that is )
@Chris I did get a new card sent...one of the cards on the 5970 was fried. ( or semi fried )
Just don't want to bottle neck it anymore by having the 920 @ 2.6
The 900s ( 975 etc) are not much faster but cost a ton more...
I was reading up on the i7s and it states they run 1066 ram not 1333 ( which I got with my Aurora ) so my 1333 is actually running only at 1066 ?
Would replacing the ram with 1066 improve over all performance or does it simply clock down the 1333 with no difference in performance?

Why not just OC the 920? Doesn't hurt the warranty. Just go into bios and hit the OC option. The 950 and the 920 are the same CPU's Intel just set the default clock higher.
BTW you can OC just with turbo. Set it to the value you want and then go into the control panel to power options and set it to high performance. The OS will keep that multiplier all the time. You can confirm this with CPU-z.
OC it and then take the money you saved and take your wife out to dinner. win/win.

OCing my 920 with the Load Level 1 OCing in bios is not going to invalidate my warranty ? 2.6 to 3.2
Chris..?
Well I would take the old lady out..but she already took me to the cleaners ( divorce)
I could spend the money on a new toy though..SSD drive, games or something...I have been looking at UPS...since we have lousy utilities in this area
I miss my ex-wife all the time..but my aim is getting better..

You will not void the warranty for utilizing the CPU overclock setting in the BIOS, but, we will ask you to return the clock speed to factory setting to eliminate any stability issues possibly caused by overclocking for the duration of troubleshooting. We will not replace any hardware for issues that ONLY occur while the system is overclocked.
