Command center/ Thermal control problem

After uninstalling a problematic anti-virus program (Norton) I had to restart my PC, when it rebooted I was shown 2 error boxes

When I entered the AW Command center neither the light or thermal control panels were working, both blank. I tried updating but it says i have the latest version.
I considered uninstalling and reinstalling the command center but i thought i would seek other advice first.

System:
AW Aurora R4
CPU I7
Ram 16GB

Thanks in Advance for any help

Hello MusashiFlex

You should uninstall it, reboot and then reinstall it. See if that fixes it and if it doesn't then you can try some more trouble shooting steps.

I would also reinstall the .NET Framework 4 : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851

Having read more forum posts regarding this I decided to check my device manager, which is also now empty. There are suggestions that this is caused by a damaged registry key, I was wondering if this could be the root of the problem?

If your Device Manager is empty, you have much worse problems than some strange AW-CommandCenter (AlienFX) messages.

Try running Dell Diags (outside of Windows)

Try Windows Safe Mode.

Try http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm

I ran the sfc /scannow (in administrator) with no success, it came back saying it had found no problems and after a reboot everything is still the same.

Sorry although I an OK with basic computer stuff most of this is a bit over my head, i did try the safe mode idea but was unable to get it to go in using the windows suggested method of holding F8 while booting.(i held the key from the second it restarted till the windows logo so I'm pretty sure i didn't miss it) Also not sure what you mean by "running Dell Diags (outside of Windows)"

And yes the Device manager is completely empty.

prior to starting this thread I tried a system restore that seemed to fix the device manger but left me unable to access the internet, i spent along time trying to fix it but without access to forums or online help i was totally stuck leaving my only option to under the restore and try and fix the original problem

Ok, well, that isn't the only thing I suggested. You can't just "pick and choose".

To be clear ... you are saying that your Device Manager is completely empty? No drives, video cards, or devices ? ... nothing?

Safe Mode. Start tapping or pressing F8

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/safe-mode-windows-7.htm

Dell Diags:

F12 on Boot

Boot to Utility Partition

Test System - Diagnostics

Yes, sounds like you have major problems with your Windows (it's corrupt). You can try to fix it, or just backup all data and use Dell Recovery (Alien ReSpawn) to restore to factory software config. It takes longer but it's more of a complete fix. Hardware must test and be good first.

If you are under warranty, call Phone Support and they will walk-you-through all required steps.

Unfortunately I don't have a re-spawn disk (call me an idiot if you like) when it asked me i was busy and thought i would do it later. is it possible to fix this with the disks that came with the system?

After much messing about I have managed to find a restore point that has both a complete registry and working net work. While I understand there maybe an underlying problem somewhere I'm not experiencing any errors atm so "if it aint broke..."

Thank you both for your help and advice

When you get the time you should contact Dell and get the Windows CD if you don't already have it. That way you have the option of doing a fresh OS install.

You can do it ... you don't even need any discs.

And here is a guide if you need it ...

But again, since you admit to having low tech skills, I would try the Recovery procedure first.
