Alienware Update repeats BIOS Update
Each month, my Alienware Update re-installs my system BIOS with the same version. Anybody got any clues as to how to stop that?
Alienware 17 r4 System; BIOS Ver. 1.2.1; Date 10/24/2017

Same problem here - I contacted Alienware and they told me that I have to wait for the next update eg 1.2.2 to come out and just ignore the pop up every time I start the laptop. (not a solution if you ask me)
I have 1.2.1 | 24/10/2017 and the one keep poping up is the same version with different date 1.2.1 | 4/12/2017.
They must messed up the updates or something.

Add me to the list and it is getting annoying! It shows up in Tech emails that I need to install it, but it's the same version time after time, but the date keeps changing on it, although it says it is the same version.
Now it is showing up due to the Alienware Update that runs in my system tray. I have gotten it 3 times over the past week and when you try to click on it to get rid of it, it automatically starts the install process and I have to reboot to let it finish. This is annoying as hell! Dell needs to do something about this and soon!

I have the identical problem and apparently it's been going on for weeks. I'm surprised Dell is this slack. I suppose the only thing to do is turn off these notifications.

Yeah but this is not a solution - we don't even know if we flash the BIOS or not because it is keep saying 24/10 1.21.1

So Alienware support via email told me to just ignore this problem, and gave no info on any fix or further BIOS update. I contacted Alienware on Twitter too and though they were very responsive they defaulted to the "just ignore it" policy in the end. However, they did tweet that they were escalating the issue and would be back in touch as soon as they heard from their engineers. Which I think is not likely to happen anytime soon. The one substantive assurance I got was that the BIOS update will not install itself in the way that Windows updates can do if you ignore them too long.If this were an ordinary software update issue I wouldn't be concerned but BIOS is a big deal and as a newcomer to Alienware this matter is not giving me a lot of confidence in the product.

you Guys don't have to Update BIOS if your Systems are working properly.
you can disable Dell Update if you want.
Right Click on the Taskbar > Startup > Right Click on Dell Update > Disable.
you can launch the Update App manually at any Point later.
....or Uninstall this Peace of........
if Dell doesn't Care about their Software why should you?

Ok they finally did something about it but..
A new version released 1.2.3 with date 23/12/2017.
I installed it and after the restart it is saying again to flash the same BIOS 1.2.3.
I checked the date and mine says 12/11/2017.. pfff
Here we go again..

it is not a BIOS File Issue. it's the Dell Update App Bug. maybe it would help if you start the Dell Update App as Admin but i wouldn't waste my Time with this App if i were you.

Sir,
You are absolutely correct. This a Dell (Alienware) Update Software, NOT BIOS problem. I opened a trouble ticket shortly after my OP, and got no real satisfaction from "Support".
The last I heard from them was:
********
Good evening Mr. xxxx,
We hope you are doing great.
My name is Arturo Castillo, I am a manager from Alienware Technical Support and your case was brought up to my attention by Mauricio.
I would like to extend formal apologies for the inconvenience with the Support Assist Notification related to the Bios update, we are aware of the situation and our development team is working diligently to correct this in a promptly manner, we understand this answer doesn't help much on resolving your situation immediately, but you can rest assured we are on the works to do so.
Now, besides the Bios update notification is there any other situation we can assist you with? is your Alienware System running fine?
Please reply to this email directly if further assistance is required and I will contact you as soon as possible.
Thank you for choosing Alienware Online Support Request,
Arturo Castillo

As you can see, my take on this is a polite "Brush Off". I have disabled the Automatic updates on my machine. I would much rather have the software do this for me, but since Dell (Alienware) does not seem interested in fixing their software, I have little more recourse.
Cheers
Bob

Gents,
It may be helpful if all of us who are having trouble open a trouble ticket with Dell (Alienware). Since they do not seem to monitor these forums, that may be the only way to make enough noise to get them off of their backsides and actually fix their Update Software.
Cheers.
Bob
BTY, When I was researching this problem, I saw users of Dell branded laptops having the same problem. (With no real solution!)
