Dell Optimizer not Installed: Waves MaxxAudio Driver and Waves MaxxAudio UWP are needed to Enable the Microphone of an Analog Headset.

Issue:

For DO-supported computers that choose to not install Dell Optimizer, the Waves MaxxAudio driver and Waves MaxxAudio UWP are needed to enable the microphone of an analog headset that is connected to the 3.5 mm jack (UAJ).

Symptoms:

  • The microphone of an analog headset will be disabled.
  • The device defaults to the integrated microphone, when available.

What’s causing this?

Select device features are designed to perform their best with Dell Optimizer. When Dell Optimizer is not installed, access to those features is limited.

Resolution:

If you choose to not install the Dell Optimizer, the workarounds that currently exist are:

  • Users can use the computer’s integrated microphone, while the audio output can still go through the headset.
  • Users can use a wireless or USB headset. These types of headsets continue to function normally.

If you require the use of the headset’s microphone, they can choose to install the Waves UWP for their specific platforms. See supported platform lists below (more platforms to be added in the following weeks.)

Note: Waves UWP should not be installed when Dell Optimizer is present on the computer. Waves UWP and Dell Optimizer should not co-exist in the same computer.
