- Verify the Presence of an Optical Disc and Attempt to Eject the Disc

This article describes how to troubleshoot a problem where a disc is unable to be ejected from a slot load optical drive on a Dell Laptop or Notebook computer.
- Click Start, then click My Computer.
- Verify whether an optical disc is in any of optical drives.
- If an optical disc is present, press the eject button on the system.
- Some systems may have a keyboard Function (Fn) key combination act as an eject button, which is <Fn> + <Eject>.
- If the eject button or Fn key combination do not eject the disc, right-click on the optical disc drive in the My Computer window and click Eject.
- Some laptops may have an eject button on a Multimedia Button Board. To verify whether a Multimedia Button Board is present and has an eject button, refer to the User Manual for your system.
If present, attempt to eject to optical disc using the Multimedia Button Board eject button.

- Click Start. In the "Search programs and files" box, type MSCONFIG and press <Enter>.
- In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab.
- Verify whether QuickSet is in the Startup Items list with a check in the box.
- If QuickSet is in the list but not checked, check the box, click OK and restart the computer.
- If QuickSet is not in the list, under Applications, download and install the latest version of Dell Quickset from dell.com/support for your system.

- Restart the computer.
- Tap <F8>on the keyboard during the startup process (at the initial Windows Logo/Splash screen) until the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen appears. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.
- Select Safe mode using the arrow keys and press <Enter>.
- Log on as the Administrator or as a user with administrative privileges. Refer to Step 1 for information on how to eject the disc.
- If the issue still persists, contact Dell Technical Support.
