Some Inspiron Power on When Moving Mouse or Pressing Keyboard Keys

Symptoms

Computers turn on when the mouse is moved, or a keyboard key pressed.

Affected Platforms:

Cause

USB Wake Support is enabled by default into the BIOS. USB devices that are connected to USB ports 1 and 7 trigger a wake signal when they are active.

Resolution

When USB Wake Support is not wanted, either connect the USB device to USB port 6 or disable WAKE on USB in the computer BIOS.

Disable USB Wake Support in the BIOS through these steps:

  1. Turn on the computer.
  2. At the Dell logo screen, tap F2 key several times until Entering BIOS or System Setup appears.
  3. In the BIOS, expand the Power Management option.
  4. Select USB Wake Support and move the slider to OFF, to Disable USB Wake Support.
  5. Click Apply Changes at the bottom.

Turn Off Enable USB Wake Support
