PowerVault ME4: Applications that use SMI-S protocol fail with controller firmware GT280R010-01

Summary: Applications using SMI-S fail to communicate with ME4 arrays upgraded to GT280R010-01. Update the controller firmware to GT280R011-01, available on Dell Support, to address the issue.

Symptoms

It describes the information available to a Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) Client from an SMI-S compliant Common Information Model (CIM) Server.

It is An object-oriented, XML-based, messaging-based interface designed to support the specific requirements of managing storage device through Storage Area Network (SANs).
  • An application such as Stor2rrd test connection may report the following messages
/usr/bin/wbemcli: Cim: (5) CIM_ERR_INVALID_CLASS: Class not found
/usr/bin/wbemcli: Cim: (3) CIM_ERR_INVALID_NAMESPACE: Class not found
  • Using Powershell to register the SMI-S provider fails (SCVMM)

Cause

Dell has confirmed this to be an issue with firmware GT280R010-01.

Resolution

FIX:
Update the PowerVault ME4 controller firmware to version GT280R011-01.
 
Note: Do not update the PowerVault ME4 controller firmware to a version beyond GT280R011-01 if SMI-S functionality is needed, as SMI-S does not function with firmware GT280R014-01.
