Symptoms

De installatie van Kdriver vib mislukt met veel fouten, zoals:

ESXi Splitter start niet op na opnieuw opstarten van de ESXi-host, met fouten in /var/run/log/vmkernel.log:

Opmerking: Dit probleem zal er ook voor zorgen dat de installatie van het RecoverPoint for VMs cluster mislukt als gevolg van een fout bij het implementeren van de ESXi splitter.

Cause

De ESXi-host heeft een instelling VMKernel.Boot.execInstalledOnly ingesteld op True.
Deze instelling voorkomt dat de kdriver vib correct wordt geïnstalleerd met behulp van Live Installation.

RecoverPoint Splitter kan niet werken met VMKernel.Boot.execInstalledOnly ingesteld op True.

Resolution

Resolutie:
1. Wijzig op de ESXi-host de instelling VMKernel.Boot.execInstalledOnly in false.
  • Voer de volgende ESXCLI-opdracht uit.
esxcli system settings encryption set --require-exec-installed-only=F
  • Controleer de wijziging. 
esxcli system settings encryption get

Require Executables Only From Installed VIBs: false
Require Secure Boot: true

 
               Controleer of alleen uitvoerbare bestanden van geïnstalleerde VIB'sfalse worden weergegeven.
  • Voer de volgende opdracht uit om de instelling op te slaan.

    De TPM dwingt de execInstalledOnly-opstartoptie niet langer af. 
 
2. Start de ESXi-host opnieuw op.
3. Voer de vib-installatie opnieuw uit.

Additional Information

Dit probleem kan ook van invloed zijn op werkende RecoverPoint-systemen wanneer klanten de STIG-hardeningsprocedure uitvoeren.

De procedure stelt de standaard STIG-waarden in die de parameter "VMKernel.Boot.execInstalledOnly" = True wijzigen.
De procedure wijzigt de ESXi-configuratie, maar wordt toegepast tijdens de volgende herstart/upgrade, en dit kan leiden tot VxRail-upgradeproblemen, omdat de geüpgrade hosts RecoverPoint voor door VM's beschermde VM's niet kunnen uitvoeren.


Hoewel het mogelijk is om de vib te installeren met optie --no-live-install - - lijkt de splitter zelfs na opnieuw opstarten niet te werken.
