Requirements for client/server connectivity:
- EMCgrab/ESXiGrab for ESXi requires that the client running esxigrab.exe (Windows) or
esxigrab.sh (Linux) have network connectivity and can communicate to the ESXi server to collecting information.
- The client machine must have HTTP access to the vCenter.
- Ensure that your File System has at least 500M free of disk space for temporary files that may be generated during its processing.
Instructions:
- Download latest esxigrab collection script from https://central.dell.com/solutions/ESXiGrab (requires a Dell account).
- Above location contains binaries for 32/64 bit Windows and 64-bit Linux clients + Readme file for instructions.
- On the Client machine, create a folder and move downloaded ESXi-Grab collection script to it.
- Extract the collection script on the client machine into created directory. Ensure that your File System has at least 500M free of disk space for temporary files that may be generated during its processing.
- Run EMCgrab with below options:
On Windows client:
esxigrab.exe -host <ESXi-ip-address> -user root -password <root_passoword> -vmsupport -trust_rsa_cert
On Linux client:
./esxigrab.sh -host <ESXi-ip-address> -user root -password <root_passoword> -vmsupport -trust_rsa_cert
Where,
-trust_rsa_cert option allows SSH connectivity to collect specific esxcli, esxcfg, and PowerPath information and
-vmsupport option includes vm-support logbundle in .zip package
- When collection finishes, cd to outputs folder and upload the collected .zip package to Service Request.
Readme file that is in the same location as above contains full list of options that can be used but above should be good starting point.
Alternatively, In-case no PowerPath/VE installed, you can also create vm-support log bundle:
- The command [vm-support] can be run directly on the ESXi host through ssh session, this deposits a file in the format of <hostname-date.tgz>.
- Download the log from mentioned location on the ssh session to your local machine, then upload to the SR.
