Instructions

Dell Command | Update (DCU) is a stand-alone application for commercial client computers that provides updates for system software Dell releases. This application simplifies the BIOS, firmware, driver, and application update experience for Dell commercial client hardware. This application can also be used to install drivers after the operating system and network drivers are installed based on the computer identity.

Note: Dell highly recommends applying the latest DCU during your next scheduled update cycle. Updates contain feature enhancements or changes that improve the reliability and availability of your computer.
Note: There are two types of DCU, one for computers with Intel or AMD processors and one for ARM processors. Select one of the followings that suits your needs. To learn how to know the processor in your computer, see How to Identify the Processor in a Dell Computer.
Note: .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.12 or higher is a pre-requisite before installation of DCU v5.5.

Latest Release

DCU 5.5 for Computers with Intel or AMD Processors (Released April 2025) DCU 5.4.0 for Computers with ARM Processors (Released July 2024)
Note: To know which version is installed on the computer, go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features:
If Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application is listed, then it is the Universal Windows Application (UWP) variant.
If Dell Command | Update is listed, then it is the Classic variant.

Known issues:

  1. If Dell Client Device Manager (DCDM) 1.0 is available on the computer and a manual installation of DCU 5.5 takes place, the DellClientManagement Service may be stopped and disabled as it becomes faulty.
  2. All application notifications may not work. Therefore, it is recommended to uninstall DCDM 1.0 and DCU 5.5 and then reinstall DCU 5.5.
  3. ConsentOverride key is not created on Fresh Install, so telemetry events may not get triggered. DCU provides an ADMX key template or a Setup through Management Suite may result in the creation of the registry key (ConsentOverride ) needed for transmitting the telemetry data. Till then, no telemetry events may be sent.
  4. DellClientManagementService is deleted when the DCU 5.4 to DCU 5.5 upgrade takes place when .NET 8 is not installed on the client (Upgrade & Fresh Install): DCU 5.5 needs .NET 8 for a successful installation. Otherwise, the installation may rollback and previous version of DCU may be removed.
  5. Any product exists along with Dell Core Services (DCS); if DCS is uninstalled, all agents may move to unknown. DCS is a core component, and uninstallation of DCS results in moving all the agents associated with DCS to an Unknown State.
