How To Run Grab On An AIX Host

Must run Grab.

Resolution

Instructions for running the Grab on a AIX host.

Ensure that this is done with root account.

Download the grab utility from https://central.dell.com/solutions/GrabUnixLinux (requires a Dell account). 

  1. Create a directory for grab.
  2. Change (CD) to the directory. created in Step 1.
  3. Put the grab utility in that directory.
  4. Untar grab utility [tar  xvf emcgrab_AIX_v4.7.1.tar].
  5. When it untars, it creates a directory inside that directory called grab.
  6. Cd into the underlying grab directory (now you are in /grab/grab).
  7. Do a ll or ls to see the packages in there, look for grab.sh.
  8. After finding the gab.sh there, run [./emcgrab.sh] while inside that directory.
  9. This runs the utility usually takes 10 minutes or more to run, and creates a directory that is called outputs. The grab is copied automatically in there.
Once complete, upload the resulting compressed file (tar file) to the case or provided FTP location.

Note that FTP access requires either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Google Chrome with IETab or Microsoft EDGE with IETab or a third party ftp client
