XPS 9720 Touchpad Intermittently is Not Working Around the Edges

Symptoms

XPS 9720 users have reported intermittent issues with the touchpad when touched along the edges. Users indicate that the left-hand, right-hand, and top edges of the touchpad do not work.

Cause

For ease of use and to prevent an accidental touch on the touchpad, the palm rejection area is defined as (see Figure.1):
  • The width of the edge filtering function along the left and right edge is 8.2 mm.
  • The height of the edge filtering function along the top edge is 4 mm.

Resolution

This is the expected behavior of the laptop touchpad. The touchpad is working as designed.
