Symptoms

When using the Ubuntu 22.04 Cheese application (camera application), it may see the following symptoms:

  1. The Cheese application preview screen stops responding or does not have smooth motion.
  2. An error message appears, "The stream is in the wrong format" when playing recorded video (Figure 1).

Cause

The issue was introduced by the PipeWire code defect on copy buffers when screen casting by the Cheese application.

Resolution

Camera Application

Use other camera applications, the Cheese application is built into Ubuntu 22.04, but it is a third-party application that is not maintained by the Operating System vendor.
