Symptoms

A WD19 dock on my new Latitude 5300 2-in-1 or 5400 Chromebook does not change the MAC address when you change the MAC Pass-through policy

The MAC address on the WD19/WD19S dock that is connected to your Latitude 5300 2-in-1 or 5400 Chromebook laptop does not automatically change. It happens when you change the MAC Address Pass-Through policy in Device Setting in the ChromeOS.

Disconnecting the laptop from the dock and redocking it allows the policy changes to take effect on the dock.

You must use the ifconfig command to check the dock's MAC address (eth0, eth1, so on) after making policy changes.

Note: The dock's MAC address does not change until the laptop is reconnected to the dock. You have to check the dock's MAC address to notice this issue. You can still access the Internet using the dock's Wired Local Area Network (LAN) connection. For more information about running the ifconfig command in the ChromeOS you should see the following knowledge article:

Resolution

Google's Chrome engineering group worked on resolving this issue with re-implementation and released Chrome Operating System update R77 to resolve.

This feature was available in some of Dell's previous laptops. However, this feature is not present for these particular computers.

You can use the following workaround to temporarily resolve this:

  1. Every time that you make a change in admin.google.com you should:

    1. Save your changes.

    2. Unplug the WD19/WD19S USB type-C dock connector cable.

    3. Plug it back in. Allow it to pick up and make the requested changes.
