Symptoms
The BIOS on the Dell OptiPlex, Latitude, and Precision cannot be upgraded or downgraded to a certain version.
Cause
This is due to some BIOS versions having key dependencies that must be installed first so later versions can load correctly.
Resolution
BIOS Dependency
When updating the BIOS on your Dell OptiPlex, Latitude, or Precision computer, you may report an error stating that the BIOS cannot load. Depending on the BIOS version installed on your computer, you may have to install a specific version first before installing the latest version of the BIOS.
If a BIOS version has a dependency, it is listed in the "Important Information" section of the BIOS download page.
