What is Windows Hello?

Windows Hello is a new way to sign in to your devices, apps, online services, and networks. It is more secure than using a password, because it uses biometric authentication—you sign in with your face, iris, or fingerprint (or a PIN).

Even if your Windows 11 or Windows 10 device can use Windows Hello, its usage is not mandatory. If it is the right choice for you, you can rest assured that the information that identifies your face, iris, or fingerprint never leaves your device. Windows never stores pictures or images of your face, iris, or fingerprint on your device or anywhere else.

Note: Windows Hello requires a specialized illuminated infrared camera for facial recognition or a finger print reader which supports the Window-Biometric Framework.

Passkeys

Passkeys are the future of authentication, and for good reason! They are incredibly easy to use and intuitive, eliminating the need for complicated password creation processes and the hassle of remembering them. Plus, they are unique to each website or application, so you do not have to worry about someone using your passkey to access other services. And unlike passwords, passkeys are resistant to phishing attempts, making them a much more secure option. Best of all, you can use your passkey across all your devices, so you never have to worry about forgetting your password again!

Note: The website or application you are trying to sign into must support passkeys in order for them to work. The adoption of passkeys as an authentication mechanism is steadily increasing and several websites and applications are beginning to offer this feature.
