- Ensure the latest BIOS available for your computer installed. For more information, see Dell Knowledge Base article Dell BIOS Updates.
- Ensure that the latest Windows updates are installed, you can get the latest updates for Windows 10 from the Microsoft website.
- Browse to Dell Drivers & Downloads website.
- You are given three options to identify and obtain drivers for your Dell Product.
- Touch or click the listing for your computer under THIS PC.
NOTE: When there is no listing for your computer under THIS PC, you can touch or click
Download & Install SupportAssist, which identifies your computer for you. Follow the prompts to download and install SupportAssist. For more information, browse to the
Dell SupportAssist for PCs page.
- Enter the Service tag, Serial number, model or product name, and then touch or click the Search button (when your product does not automatically appear in the list), and select your computer from the list.
- Touch or click Browse all products: You must select the type of device you have, the brand name, and then the product model.
- Either:
- Click Check for Updates to have our automated SupportAssist tool to update drivers for you.
- Click Find drivers and go to Step 6.
- Select the Operating System that is installed on your computer using the drop-down menu under Operating system:
- Enter finger in the Keyword: search box, and then press Enter.
- Select the check-box to the left of one or more fingerprint drivers shown.
NOTES:
- The results may include Synaptic's, Dell ControlVault, Validity, Goodix, or another listing, this is correct, and are the files that you need.
- When a firmware is offered for your computer, download both the firmware and driver, and ensure to install the firmware first.
- Either:
- Depending on your browser, you get different options. The following steps are based on using the Chrome browser.
- Once the driver is downloaded, touch or click the file that is listed at the bottom of the screen to start the installation process, and then follow the prompts.
- Press and hold the Windows () key, and then press the q key.
- In the Search box, type settings.
- In the search results list, touch or click Settings (App).
- Touch or click Accounts.
- Touch or click Sign-in options.
- When wanted set the slider next to Sign in with an external camera or Fingerprint reader to On.
NOTE: This option only shows on devices with compatible hardware.
- In the Sign-in options section, touch or click Windows Hello Fingerprint or Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello).
NOTE: You have to set up a PIN number when you have not done so already.
- Touch or click Set up.
- Enter your PIN number.
- The computer asks you to scan your finger-several times to ensure that the scan is accurate.
- Once the computer scans your finger enough times, you get an All set! message.
- Touch or click Close when you are enrolling only one finger. Touch or click Add another when you want to enroll another finger and then follow the prompts.
- Press and hold the Windows () key, and then press the q key.
- In the Search box, type settings.
- In the search results list, touch or click Settings (App).
- Touch or click Accounts.
- In the Sign-in options section, touch or click Windows Hello Fingerprint.
- Touch or click Remove under Fingerprint.
- Close the Settings window.
