How to Enable and Disable the Firewall for Dell Security Management Server Virtual

This article provides the steps for enabling and disabling the firewall for Dell Security Management Server Virtual (formerly Dell Data Protection | Virtual Edition).

  • 8.0.X and later

Affected Operating Systems:

The firewall function for Dell Security Management Server Virtual varies between v9.11.0 and Later and v8.2.0 to 8.10.1. Click the appropriate version for more information. For versioning information, reference How to Identify the Dell Data Security Server Version.

v9.11.0 and later

The firewall status of Dell Security Management Server Virtual may be Enabled or Disabled. Click the appropriate process for more information.

  1. Log in to the Dell Security Management Server Virtual administration console using the default administrator (delluser) credentials.

    Note:
    • The default credentials for Dell Security Management Server Virtual are:
      • Username: delluser
      • Password: delluser
    • An administrator can change the default password within the product’s virtual appliance menu.
  2. From the Main Menu, select Launch Shell and then press Enter.

  3. Type su dellsupport and then press Enter.

  4. Type the Password for dellsupport and then press Enter.

    • The default credentials for Dell Security Management Server Virtual are:
      • Username: dellsupport
      • Password: dellsupport
    • An administrator can change the default password within the product’s virtual appliance menu.
  5. In the virtual appliance shell menu, type sudo ufw enable and then press Enter.

  6. Type exit and then press Enter to log out of dellsupport.

    Caution: The firewall should only be disabled temporarily. Dell does not recommend leaving the firewall disabled. Reference the Enable instructions for information about re-enabling the firewall.

v8.2.0 to 8.10.1

  5. In the virtual appliance shell menu, type sudo ufw enable and then press Enter.
