Connectrix (Brocade) Switches:
In a Connectrix Brocade switch, there are four ways to obtain the serial number:
- Log in to the switch using telnet or Secure Shell (SSH) and issue the FOS command:

The Connectrix Brocade switch serial number is listed in bold.
- Log in to Webtools using an Internet browser and enter the switch IP address.
- After logging into the switch, the main page shows a picture of the switch and below that, an area called Switch Event, Information.
- Click the tab labeled Switch Information.
- The Connectrix serial number is listed under the Other tab and labeled as Supplier Serial Number.
- If Connectrix Manager, Connectrix Manager Data Center Edition, or Connectrix Manager Converged Network Edition is used to manage the Connectrix Brocade switch, it is possible to get the serial number from this software.
- Find the fabric the switch is discovered in using the fabric view.
- Right-click the switch and choose Properties.
- The switch serial number is listed in this tab.
- The Connectrix Brocade switch serial number is also physically located on the switch (this information is obtained from the respective switch hardware guide which is found on Dell Support web site.

Connectrix (Cisco) Switches:
In a Connectrix Cisco switch, there are three ways to obtain the serial number:
- Log in to the switch using telnet or Secure Shell (SSH) and issue the CLI command:
show license host-id
or
show inventory.

The Connectrix Cisco serial number is listed in bold in both examples.
- If Fabric Manager or Data Center Network Manager are used to manage the Connectrix Cisco switch, it is possible to get the serial number from this software.
- After opening Fabric Manager of Data Center Network Manager, choose the fabric that the switch serial number we are trying to find, resides in.
- Open the fabric from the left hand corner of the display. There is an area labeled Physical Attributes.
- Under Physical Attributes, there is a folder called switches. In switches, choose Hardware option.
- Choosing the hardware option opens a display above the fabric map that displays all installed hardware and the serial numbers of the hardware in the specific fabric.
- Find the respective switch by the switch name and look for the chassis hardware information.
- The Serial Number listed under the Chassis Hardware description is the serial number of the switch.
- Connectrix Cisco switch serial number is also physically located on the switch (this information is obtained from the respective switch hardware guide which can be found on the Cisco Website).
The serial number label is located as follows:
- MDS-9513 - In the top-middle of the chassis on the port card side of the switch.
- MDS-9509 - Earlier releases of the switch have the serial number located on the bottom right side of the port card side of the switch, while later releases of the switch have the serial number located on the bottom left side of the port card side of the switch.
- MDS-9506 - On the bottom left hand side of the port card facing side of the switch.
- For Departmental class Connectrix Cisco switches, the serial number is found on the product service label on the port side of the switches.
