This video will demonstrate the replacement procedure of a Power Supply for the PowerEdge T40.
Prerequisites Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions. Power off the system and attached peripherals. Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet, and disconnect the peripherals.
Removing the system cover: Pull the system cover release latch. Remove the system cover. Lay the system on its side. Disconnect the PSU cable from the drive.
Opening the PSU assembly: Slide the PSU assembly release latches to the unlock position. Lift the PSU assembly. Disconnect the PSU cables from the optical drive and the system board. NOTE:Observe the routing of the cable as you remove it from the system.
Closing the PSU assembly: Lower the PSU assembly until the PSU assembly is firmly seated. Slide the PSU assembly release latches to the lock position.
Removing the power supply unit: Remove the screws securing the PSU support bracket to the PSU assembly and remove the PSU support bracket from the chassis. Remove the screws securing the PSU to the PSU assembly. Slide and remove the PSU from of the chassis.
Installing the power supply unit: Insert the PSU into the PSU assembly and slide it towards the rear of the chassis until it is firmly seated. Tighten the screws to secure the PSU to the chassis. Align and tighten the PSU support bracket to secure in place.
Connect the PSU cable to the drive.
Opening the PSU assembly: Slide the PSU assembly release latches to the unlock position. Lift the PSU assembly.
Connect the PSU cables to the optical drive and the system board. NOTE:Route the cable properly when you replace it to prevent the cable from being pinched or crimped.
Closing the PSU assembly: Lower the PSU assembly until the PSU assembly is firmly seated. Slide the PSU assembly release latches to the lock position.
Installing the system cover: Align the tabs on the system cover with the slots on the chassis. Press the system cover until it clicks into place.
Place the system upright on a flat, stable surface. Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet. Power on the attached peripherals and then power on the system.
