In this video we will demonstrate how to replace the Optical-disk drive or ODD on a ChengMing 3991 system. Before removing the ODD, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety.
For more information about safety guidelines, see the ChengMing 3991 Service Manual at: Dell.com/support Before you begin, ensure that you turn off your computer and disconnect all attached peripherals. To begin with, loosen the two captive screws that secure the side cover to the computer.
Slide the side cover towards the back of the computer And lift the side cover away from the chassis. Now gently pry the retention tabs to release the front bezel from the system and remove the front bezel from the computer.
Now let’s remove the Optical-disk drive. Disconnect the data and power cable from the ODD. Remove the two screws from the ODD bracket that secures the ODD to the computer. Press the securing tab to release the ODD from the chassis and pull the drive out of the computer.
You have now successfully removed the ODD. Now, let’s see how to install the ODD. To begin, insert the optical drive into the slot on the computer.
Replace the two screws from the ODD bracket to secures the ODD to the computer and then connect the data and power cable to the ODD.
In order to install the front bezel, position the bezel to align the tabs with the slots on the chassis. Press the bezel until the release tabs click into place.
Align the side cover with the guidelines on the chassis. Slide the side cover towards the front of the system to install the side cover. Now replace the thumbscrews to secure the side cover to the system.
