In this video, we will demonstrate how you can migrate your files and settings from any PC running the Windows operating system to your Dell PC using the Dell Migrate service.
NOTE: Dell Migrate is available for Inspiron, G Series, XPS, and Alienware PCs in the U.S. For a successful migration, ensure the following conditions are met. The operating system that is installed on your old PC is Windows 8.1 or later.
The operating system that is installed on your new PC is Windows 10 or later. You are logged in to your old and new PC as an administrator. And the old and new PCs are connected to the same local network.
Now, on your old PC, go to Dell.com/DataAssistant. Scroll down and download the executable file and click it. The Dell Data Assistant is extracted and installed on your PC.
On your new PC, open SupportAssist, click the chevron icon, click Go now, and then click Let’s get started. Now, on your old PC, open Dell Data assistant and click Let’s get started.
If you are connected to a public network, you are prompted to confirm if you recognize and trust the network. If you do, click Trust Network to continue. Dell Migrate tries to detect your old PC that is connected to the same network.
When the old PC is detected, enter the verification code that is displayed on your old PC. After the code is verified successfully, the two PCs are paired, and Dell Data Assistant scans your old PC for files and settings that can be migrated.
You have the option to move all the data or select the data that you want to move. By default, Move everything for me is selected, which migrates all the data that is detected on your old PC. Click Migrate now.
If the files and settings of applications that are running on your PCs must be migrated you are prompted to close the applications and continue or cancel the migration process.
As the files are migrated to the new PC, you can start working on both your PCs. During the migration, you will also notice that your wallpaper gets updated in real time without restarting your PC.
After the migration is complete, a summary is displayed with details of the migration. Click Finish and click Tell us how we did to provide your feedback about your experience with Dell Migrate.
